Visualising waste streams in the Province of Antwerp

Flanders and the Province of Antwerp province aim, by 2030, to reduce 30% of the material footprint consumption through a circular economy (CE) approach. The project- called the mATeriaL spAtial dimeNsion of wasTe flowS- ATLANTES aims to support the CE approach and transition by developing an online platform, which visualises the distribution of materials, and in particular, waste flows to and from the Province of Antwerp between 2017 and 2019. By analysing waste streams, the project seeks to help governments and public agencies maximise the impact of their decision towards a CE transition, allowing businesses to find and reuse waste materials on a provincial scale.

The ATLANTES platform visualises waste movement geographically, providing links with specific activities, actors, and locations. The ATLANTES platform allows the understanding of waste flows in the Province of Antwerp territories and aims to reduce waste production by conceiving waste as a resource.
