Multidisciplinary team investigates future of Lidl distribution center in Herentals
A multidisciplinary research team, led by Professor Maarten Van Acker (University of Antwerp) and B-architecten, is working to better integrate Lidl's planned distribution center in Herentals into the surrounding area. A team of experts is mapping out the area and the business zone with a view to ensuring a sustainable future for businesses and local residents alike. This team is working closely with stakeholders such as local residents, local authorities, and businesses. Transparency and participation are key in this regard.
The study focuses on different levels:
The company: Improvements to the distribution center and immediate surroundings, such as traffic safety, greening, and better access via Diamantstraat.
The industrial park: The industrial zone around the E313, with a focus on traffic flow and the separation of bicycle and freight traffic.
The city: The wider area from the Herentals ring road to Lierseweg, with a focus on quality of life in the surrounding neighborhoods.
By learning from international examples and responding to local policy plans such as the Herentals Mobility Plan, the team strives to find concrete and feasible solutions.
